Biography

Mystique Galloway is an aspiring sound engineer who was born in Lakeland, Florida. She lived in Florida a few years and then moved with her family Maryland. When she was a child she could easily pick up a rhythm from a song she heard from the radio or even a college drum line. In 2004, Mystique became a member of the concert band playing snare drum and have been following the music path with a focus in percussion ever since. 

In 2009, Mystique started her freshman year at Frederick Douglass High School and joined the marching band. As time progressed she became more and more interested in the effect of dynamic contrast, melodies and countermelodies. Towards the end of her senior year, she participated in county and state festival. The young percussionists’ piece was Concerto in A Minor, composed by J.S Bach.

In March 2013, she received an acceptance letter to Florida International University for music education. Excited to return to her birth place while at Florida International University, she became exposed to core style marching band and to playing pop music. Participating in the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds Ensemble, she became exposed to very powerful pieces of classical music. Studying Music Technology was solidified through the experience in the wind ensembles, thus further encouraging Mystique to become a film score composer.

Feeling homesick the musician decided to return back home in 2014 to attend Bowie State University to study Music Technology. While in attendance she played in the marching, pep, and concert bands. She is furthering her advancement in percussion by studying four mallet technique for marimba and perfecting the concert snare. In their winter concert, Mystique performed on the marimba, xylophone, chimes, and agogo bells throughout the six pieces that were performed. In their spring concert, Mystique performed on the marimba, glockenspiel, chimes, vibraphone, and timpani in the five pieces that were performed. She intends to further her education by practicing over the summer and preparing for the upcoming school year

Personal Statement

Throughout my life music has been a salvation and a healer. When I used to get in trouble for not having the best grades, music always brought me back up. When I was going through a time of despair because of loss in my family, music brought me back to my usual self. Whenever I needed and need to take my mind off of current issues, I practice my percussive instruments. I feel at home when I can play as loud or as soft as I can for how long or how short I would like to practice. I love what I do with the art of music with a concentration in percussion. The motto "Home is where you can drum" basically solidifies the feeling I get when I can act crazy with my instrument and not worry about anyone telling me to be quiet or to stop because it's late. I would like everyone to feel at home in my studio as if it were their second home. When someone needs a place to practice or refuge, they  can come to Mystique's Percussive Studio.
